firmware 0.3.0 — liner notes

the one where the visualizer learned to listen.

every firmware release ships with liner notes, because a changelog should read like the back of a record sleeve. version 0.3.0 is mostly about the visualizer engine. it used to render what the synth intended to play; it now renders what the device actually hears, including the audio interface inputs. plug a turntable in and the screen breathes with it.

we rewrote the fft pipeline in fixed point and got the analysis latency under 4 milliseconds, which is the difference between a visual that dances and a visual that follows. the grain engine got longer buffers (8 seconds, up from 2), and the sequencer learned per-step probability — the feature our beta units apparently used more than anything else we planned.

known issues: the tape model still flutters slightly out of spec at low battery. honestly, some of us have started calling it a feature. we will fix it anyway, and then we will add a knob for it.
